Who Do I Hire Next?

How do you figure out who that next hire should really be? Where do you put your funds?

I get asked this all the time, and one of my clients last week asked it again. And I said, "Well, we can't just pick it out of the blue." That's not how this happens.

What I do is a process I call future casting. It's really future casting - what your team is going to look like when you hit those goals that you already have set up.

That way we can backtrack. So, you make an org chart or a team structure is what I call it, of what your team looks like right now. And that's exactly what I did with my client.

Okay, the picture looks like this.

This person is doing 20 hours of graphic design and 20 hours of admin and this and that and the other thing. So, you're wearing more than one hat, most likely, in the business.

What you want to do is... Okay, when I hit that million or when I hit that number, could be a year out, could be two or three years out or five, depending on how far you wanna go. But what does my team look like then? How do I have it set up? How is the org chart structured?

Because when you can start to bridge the gap between where you are now and where you wanna be, it's way more clear to see who you need to hire next. That way we're not just sort of randomly putting people around.

Going, well, for now, we're cobbling it all together and trying to figure out who can help us right this moment. It's not about that. It's who can actually be in those right positions for the company structure that we want to have when we hit our goals.

That way, by the time they're all trained up and ready to go, they will be all set for your well-oiled machine.
