  • Someone like Godin is right on: if you don’t worry so much about the money, and simply try to add value to someone’s life, or a group of people even, there will be rewards. Obviously, if you do something you enjoy, this is much easier.

But in the end, it’s not even about the money, but the freedom.

    • Exactly! I have millionaire in the title just because its a goal number, but what I really want? Freedom and the security to know that at I can live a long time and not HAVE to work til I’m 80 like a lot of people in my parents generation 🙂

      • Excellent interview, and I enjoyed it very much. I have always told my kids that money is not the path to happiness, but money brings you freedom to pursue those things that you really care about.

    • Such truth! I only wish to find this for myself!

  • love the permalink! 😉 and just think of launching ‘thefailingmillionaire.org’ or so. seth talks more about his new book and failing in a recent interview with michael stelzner, which i highly recommend too… seth godin interview on social media examiner

    cheers?sig

  • It’s official.

You have *arrived* with your interviewing skills and capabilities, Jaime.

    Seth Godin.

    I mean, “SETH GODIN”.

    😀

    • Thanks Bruce!! Love this 🙂

  • Congrats on the big “get”, Jaime!
Excellent interview and inspiring conversation between two of my favorite people.

    • Aw thanks Scott! Missed you at New Media Expo! Can’t wait to see you again. 🙂

  • Jaimie, you have really taken this to the next level by having Seth Godin on. He is a unique person who thinks outside of the box to make an impact on the world. I’ve already get his blog everyday and it is amazing. Now, I’m going to publicly share my biggest fear on here.

My biggest fear is that I will not be able to get towards the mindset of just enjoying what I do and changing the world and enjoying the journey to get to my goal of being successful as a freelancer writer and having a successful online media company.

    • Rock on Cheval!! I love that you stated what you are afraid of! (way to get out of your comfort zone!)
What is so cool, enjoying is that is something you can do RIGHT now. What can you do to enjoy things now?

  • Jaime,

Seth is unlike anyone else. He is a voice of reason, a voice of integrity, a voice of non-conformity. He’s also one of my favorite humans on earth. Thank you so much for working to make this interview happen and for sharing it with us.

    Awesome work.

    Jason

    • You are so very welcome, it was just as beneficial to me! Seth is amazing.

  • What an insanely grrrreat interview, Jaime !

In fact, I listened 3 times to it already.
Seth Godin gives the smartest advice, and he’s clearly
riding on the “change people’s lives” over becoming rich (quickly).
BTW – your take on robot development in the end was interesting too.
I believe all the people who do menial work will be the first ones to get replaced,
us creative types a bit later, heh.
That’s why I’m hustling right now.

    • You’ve listened to it 3 times! Rock on!
Can I quote that on my facebook page?
      Keep on hustling man!! 🙂

  • Great interview with Seth, very interesting to hear his insights on the journey and not as much on meeting the actual goal. Many of us forget to celebrate while on the great journey.

    • Yes we do! There is always something coming up, and we think that is more important that what we just achieved! 🙂

  • Robots don’t buy meals from the cafe either.

Any routine procedure at any level of sophistication in a stable environment can be done by robots. What robots can’t deliver is human touch and human relationship.

    • Exactly! So THAT is the key right? Those are the currency of the future 🙂

  • Jaime great to meet you at NMX. You did an awesome job extracting nuggets of wisdom from Seth. This is one of the most enjoyable and interesting interviews I’ve heard in awhile!

    Stephanie

    • Wow, thank you Stephanie! I’m honored. I wish we had a chance to actually catch up while we were there! It was a bit of a whirlwind 🙂

  • Great interview Jaime. I almost didn’t listen because i’ve recently heard him on some of the other shows I follow, but I’m glad I did. You didn’t ask the same predictable questions. Thanks again, sb

    • Great to hear! I try to make it different and valuable. Glad you enjoyed it!! 🙂 SO nice to meet you in person this past week Shelia!

  • Great interview, Jamie! I just interviewed Seth, as well, and always learn something every time I listen to him talk. Well done.

    • Thanks Jeff!! I love your work too. 🙂

  • Jaime you’re one of my favs, it’s always interesting to hear about Seth bc he doesn’t talk about “tactics” but philosophy.

I love napoleon hill’s “Think and Grow Rich” which is a catchy title, but Hill doesn’t just focus on “hey, get rich” but just the example (and marketing) he used to show his idea of obesessing with what you want to do and you will.

My favorite of his quotes here was when he said that the resistance is screaming “Don’t do that, that’s stupid, so I go ahead and do it” 😀 Love it!

    • I was surprised on his thoughts on Think and Grow Rich too, since it’s not wholly money driven. (at least not to me!)

I always appreciate you listening in Joe! 🙂

  • Jamie,

I want to thank you so much for publishing the transcript to this interview. I can’t watch the video but being able to read the transcript has been invaluable and it is such value added!!! I have read every interview that has a transcript and have even started to copy and paste key quotes from each interview. Sort of like a motivational document to review when I get discouraged.

I loved the great questions you asked and even though I though you arrive far before you got Seth Godin on the site, I thought you did an excellent interview.

So thanks again and I can’t wait to read the next inspiring interview.

    • That is great Nicole!! I’d love to see that document too 😉
I’ve been taking some inspiring quotes that I find and posting them on facebook too. I’m so glad you enjoy the transcripts! 🙂

  • Your questions about Matt’s performance group really related to me as a performer. Thanks for podcasting! Hope we can play catch sometime!

  • OMG!!! way to go Jamie! OMG!!

  • I am afraid of ‘going back to being the past Adebo – purposeless, for others standards rather than mine, and pretending to know when I’m lost’.
Thanks Seth for the stand you were during this interview!

    • Thank you for being able to POST what you are afraid of! Impressive 🙂 Thank you.

  • Jaime,

I just came across your podcast and I’m lovin’ it! I watched the Godin interview and the Andrew Warner interview. You have a positively unique (refreshing, in other words) way of interacting with your guests.

    Keep up the good work.

    – Charles

    • Thank you Charles!! I really appreciate the kind words especially since you are a new listener 🙂 Please let me know how I can make them better for you too!

  • Jaime,
Thank you for your refreshing and genuine approach in this interview. I was referred here by a friend because they know Seth Godin is one of my favorite people and minds on the planet. Kudos to you for having Seth on your ‘show’.
I found your questions refreshing and cogent, and of course Seth’s responses out of the box and inspiring.
I am in the middle of creating one of my big, scary goals right now, and am motivated even more to see this to completion, now.
And yes to you being a geek. We geek girls need to keep speaking about what intrigues us in the science and tech world, it brings a new tone to the discussion.

    • Geek girls unite! 🙂 Thanks Kathleen. I am so happy you found value and inspiration especially since you are going through it right now! 🙂 Let me know how it goes!

  • Great, great interview Jaime. I love Seth Godin. He is just so wise! Looking forward to seeing great things from you in 2013.

    • Thanks Sharon! I can’t wait to see what 2013 brings too 🙂

  • Mucho insight.
    Thank you Sharon and Seth.
I was surprised when you said he was the first to thank you.
That is what it is about. I heard of your podcast via Dan Miller the other day…
He gets you thinking and as he pointed out, he made it so there would be a void if he was gone. Good questions. I liked getting the video version of this podcast so I can see facial expressions and such, it helps as Seth says so much. I kept going back 30 seconds on my player so I could rehear things.
    Thanks again.

    • Good to hear you enjoy the videos too! (I always love to see what everyone has in their office 🙂

Glad to know you found me from Dan Miller! I can’t wait to post an interview with him too!

  • i’m glad i listened to dan millers podcast (as christopher from above) where someone asked for podcasts made by women… and he suggested yours.
now it’s an essential element in my podcast mix.
your way to pick seth’s brain confirmed my resolution to subscribe to your podcast.
thank you, for your great video-interviews – the first time i wished i had more space available on my iphone to store many of them…
    best wishes from germany!

  • Excellent interview!

  • Thank you Jaime for what you do! Your interview with Seth was amazing…he definitely lives outside the box. During my years in government I began to think about what kind of mark I was leaving on this earth. Working at an unfulfilling job with unfulfilling pay seemed crazy to me. Leaving that job seemed crazy to my colleagues, friends, and family. My life view changed and became this. If we wait until retirement to enjoy ourselves, there may not be enough of ourselves to enjoy it. I try to treat each evening and weekend as little slices of retirement because no one is guaranteed a lengthy one at the end of their career. It was the scariest moment of my life when I finally quit that job on July 5, 2012 and began following my dream of creating a national brand and giving back to those in need.

I speak from experience…if you have a dream, its biggest obstacle is waiting. Don’t wait until you’re 42 to start…start right now.

    • Congrats Mike!! That is awesome, and you must be so happy to have found that out at 42 and not 52 😉

  • Loved the interview, Seth is the man! Thank you Jaime for sharing!!

  • AWESOME interview! Seth is so good at helping us feel like we really can make this work!

I was thinking about the “robots taking over” question that you brought up. Personally, I welcome that change, because it opens the way (even forces the way) for people to focus on the very things you talked about with Seth–making a difference in the world, changing lives, and empowering people. After all, if instead of our day jobs, we all go independent and offer unique original value, who’s going to be working for “the man?”

    The robots.

Robots can’t do what Seth is doing. Robots can’t do what you’re doing, and because robots are being made to flip burgers, drive cars, and run major businesses, you, Seth and I can focus on making real life human connections and changing lives with the meaningful things that make humans unique. Bring out the robots!

    • Exactly! Just like we don’t want to have human’s doing repetitive factory work that robots can do, why not have them do other things? That frees up workers to be CREATIVE and use their talents! (even though if some think it’ll be in the form of massive unemployment. Maybe we need that to hit the next level? Who knows!)

  • This podcast has literally changed my life. I have been voracious in searching for and listening to any Seth Godin speeches, videos, podcasts and reading his blogs. His whole approach to things, along with Russell Simmons, has been my model of living for a couple years now – he’s able to articulate it and reinforce it in a straight up way. Thank you for sharing this with us and all the other EM podcasts. You rock Jaime!

    • Thank you Stuart! So happy to have you as a listener, glad to help in any way I can! 🙂

  • I am just exploring your website after listening to a great presentation tonight at MWN and came across this interview! How lucky am I that this was the first that drew me in. I’m new to Seth Godin, if you can believe it! Thanks for the introduction. Look forward to watching your other interviews. Best wishes as you continue to move forward!

  • I love, love, love this interview! I built my business solely on my values and I continue to get resistance from everyone saying I should focus more on money. My great grandfather always told me to do what I love and never worry about money. I’m bootstrapping (and downloaded his bible!) and I am so thankful to hear someone else that not only bootstrapped but put heart and soul ahead of money. Thank you!!!!

  • wow powerful video!

    • Thanks Gabriel! 🙂

  • Great interview. Eye opener!

  • Thank you!
