I recently sat down with my friend Justin Ledford, author of Visions to the Top, to discuss how visualization strategies can improve productivity in business. Justin is a visualization expert and knows what makes people productive.

Justin shared how to build a visualization mindset, four steps to visualization and productivity tips to make your business more effective and efficient.

How a Visualization Mindset will Boost Productivity

Visualization is an elite practice that top performers have used for thousands of years. Visualization is the practicing of envisioning what you want for your future. It helps you see things in your mind’s eye. You envision yourself achieving outcomes you want to achieve in your business.

Visualization makes you more productive because it rewires the neurons inside your brain. When you visualize yourself doing something, your brain fires up those neurons as if you are actually doing it.

Four Steps of Visualization

There are four steps of visualization. Spend 10-20 minutes a day going through these steps, and your productivity can skyrocket.

The first step is breathing. Calm your mind, close your eyes, and relax for a minute or two.

The second step is inward thought. Think about what successes you have had in the past, feel those moments of success. Your mind will become anchored in a state of gratitude.

The third step is smiling. Take yourself to the moment of success you want to achieve. See yourself achieving your desired success, and smile.

The fourth and final step is acceptance. Go back to breathing and accept that your success will come to you in real life. With that in mind, imagine you have a dial on your chest, like a volume knob that goes from 1 to 10, with 1 being low and 10 being high. As you visualize and accept your success, pretend the knob is at 1 and physically turn the knob to 10 with your hand to amplify the positive energy of your visualization. Physically amplifying the energy instills confidence in you. You will become more productive, and you will recharge yourself. Justin calls this process, turning the dial up on your visualization.

More Productivity Tips for Your Business

We all have ideas that we want to achieve, but Justin warns, if we do not write down what it is we want, then it is easy to get bombarded by distractions. Justin tells business owners to stay productive and efficient when achieving dreams by creating a written dream list that goes beyond their business.

Write down every part of your life that you want to improve, such as your spiritual, intellectual, physical, emotional, and psychological health; your character, and more. Then write three bullet points for things you want to achieve under each important part of your life. If you do that even once a year, you will have objectives and goals to guide yourself. If you can, make a dream list every quarter.

Justin also suggests creating a daily to-do list. Write out everything you want to do the night before or that morning. Then attack the most difficult task first. Get the most daunting task done, then do the second-most-daunting task, and so on. This technique can make you successful by 9:30 a.m. Knocking out the toughest things first will also make you more productive as the day goes on because the rest of the tasks on your list will seem easier.
